The occupation of Baltic states refers to the occupation of the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) first by the Soviet Union under the provisions of the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. In the first year of Soviet occupation, from June 1940 to June 1941, the number confirmed executed, conscripted, or deported is minimally estimated at 124,467: 59,732 in Estonia, 34,250 in Latvia, and 30,485 in Lithuania.
You can see numerous corpses of civilians who were executed by NKVD (People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs; it was the leading secret police organization of the Soviet Union that was responsible for political repressions during Stalinism) in Latvia during 1940-1941. How many such graves of those cruelly murdered were and still are hidden beneath Latvian soil? The names of many of those buried in these graves are not known.
