Female genital cutting, also known as female genital mutilation, female circumcision or female genital mutilation/cutting, refers to all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious or other non-therapeutic reasons. It is practiced throughout the world, with the practice concentrated most heavily in Africa.

| Anybody can GET circumcised or cut up any way they like as far as I'm concerned. What IS unethical is doing to people against their will. And yes I include boys in that, although the consequences are obviously not as drastic. |

| i am learing about this in my sociology class. there are so many different cultures in the world and we dont always understand why some cultures do some things. there are things in american culture that other cultures find immoral. such as women wearing revealing bikinis in public, or men who do not provide for there families. for someone to say that what these women are doing is disgusting and against their will is just plain old ignorance. you dont know the situation and the beliefs behind what they are doing. so dont judge. |

| to CC: I'm pretty sure this is a Labiaplasty procedure, not a female circumcision. You don't know that this is against her will. Many women are repulsed by their labia, which they obsess over and sometimes remove. |
