In a species with very limited distribution, a sudden change in environoment *would bring it to extinction most likely. Humans,for their own unwitting selfish aims, have wiped out many,many species. ** * chamoflage, poison spray, venom, toxins, speed, teeth and claws... ** The clearing of a town lot for a baseball field, wiped out the breeding grounds of a now extinct butterfly. The Monarch butterfly is threatened by continued logging of its Mexico wintering grounds. The Dodo, a flightless species of pigeon, was wiped out for food. A subspecies of Partridge,found on Martha's Vineyard, was wiped out by a number of untoward changes,incl. an incursion of hawks that did not leave them alone. It might have survived any one of these assaults, but not in quick succession. |
