Accident → Injured Princess Diana in a car accident
Diana, Princess of Wales was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. Princess Diana died after a high speed car accident in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris along with Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul on 31 August 1997.
None of the four occupants wore seatbelts. Henri Paul and Dodi Fayed died instantly, and Diana - unbelted in the back seat - slid forward during the impact and, having been violently thrown around the interior, suffering massive damage to her heart and subsequent internal bleeding. She was eventually, after considerable delay, transported by ambulance to the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital, but on the way to casualty went into cardiac arrest twice. Despite lengthy resuscitation attempts, including internal cardiac massage, she died. We still have questions regarding to authenticity of that image.

| The accident was caused by two paperazi(sp?) who, intent on getting a highly marketable photo of Dodi and Diana together, persistently chased the Princess' car at high speed through the streets of Paris. When the cars entered the tunnel, it is possible that the pursuers saw their chance for a highly valuable photo, and drew alongside Di's car, and the result was the well-known catastrophic accident. Postscript: Of the two paperazi, one was a Frenchman, who was found dead at his home three weeks after the accident, of unknown causes. The other was a Vietnamese man who immediately after the accident flew back to Vietnam -- and was never seen again. Many consider the one paperazi's mysterious death, and the other's mysterious disappearance to be a "back off!" warning from England to all paperazi worldwide, who might wish to press members of the Royal Household too closely for the sake of a photograph. |
