War → WWII → Victim of atomic bombing of Hiroshima
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks during World War II against the Empire of Japan by the United States of America under US President Harry S. Truman. On August 6, 1945, the first choice target, Hiroshima, was having clear weather. At 8:15 a.m. (local time), the Enola Gay's door sprang open and dropped "Little Boy." The bomb exploded 1,900 feet above the city and only missed the target, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 feet. Staff Sergeant George Caron, the tail gunner, described what he saw: "The mushroom cloud itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside... It looked like lava or molasses covering a whole city..." The cloud is estimated to have reached a height of 40,000 feet.

Hiroshima's population has been estimated at 350,000; approximately 70,000 died immediately from the explosion and another 70,000 died from radiation within five years. A survivor described the damage to people: "The appearance of people was... well, they all had skin blackened by burns... They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back... They held their arms bent [forward] like this... and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down... If there had been only one or two such people... perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people... Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts..."

| Has everyone forgot that they attacked Hawaii on a Sunday? That's what started the nuclear attack. They woke a sleeping giant and paid dearly for it. It's survival of the fittest on this planet, and at that time he who had the nukes, ended the wars. There are monuments in place to reminds us of the tragedy in Hawaii, war is ugly. This was a swift blow instead of a drawn out battle. Truman made the right call. |

| I can't understand why some humans are capable of such hatred and have disregard for human life and suffering. It seems the American government has to uphold its masculine image or it will be looked down upon. No sympathy for anyone or an attempt to understand, just go in, conquer and declare victory. The American government did it to the Native Americans, Immigrants, The Middle East and who knows who else will fall victim. The worst part is that the citizens are often lied to or are in the dark about the truth. I grew up being taught in a way that makes these victims seem less human and for most it works in detaching emotions, but I felt confused. Why did these people deserve such a fate? Often all they were doing was trying to protect their home and the government took it from them. Yes Alquida was a threat to America, but that doesn't mean we invade other countries and terrorized innocent citizens. American needs a government with compassion and no longer filled with lies. |

| The man in the pictures, Mr. Tetsuo Sakurai is not a victim of atomic bombing. He suffered leprosy. I happened to have watched a documentary from which these pics were taken while I was living in Japan. So I thought to post this message for I believe it is important to discuss issues based on accurate information. |

| The way Americans talk is like we did here about 50 years ago. Many Americans still have the old-fashioned "only our country matters and people from elsewhere aren't humans like us" mentality. If you're American: Wake up before it's too late. Vote on a president who supports rational peace instead of the fantasy of "we are number one in the world". If you nuke a country today, you can expect a nuke back. The entire world has A-bombs now, totally different as in 1945. The way you guys are running your country you're going to get hurt in the long run. You can't keep bombing every country that doesn't do what you want. Trust me. The evil bully never wins in the end, there are too many good people in the world who will stand up if you go too far... Your allies you have now will slowly become your enemies. This is already happening today. The bully always ends up as a loser in the end, just like in real life. |

| For me this is not even about the USA. For me this is about what humans can do to people who are "different". I wish we would live in a world without borders. I wish some people aren't patriotic or stupid enough to see people from other countries as less. We are all people. I can't understand how some humans among us think. They must be either really stupid or really unhappy to do this to their fellow humans. |

| it was just an excuse to test ((the bomb)) in a real life situation plain and simple if america wanted revenge for pearl harbour they could of bombed a few japanese pearl harbours with conventional explosives |
