WarWWII → Victim of atomic bombing of Hiroshima

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks during World War II against the Empire of Japan by the United States of America under US President Harry S. Truman. On August 6, 1945, the first choice target, Hiroshima, was having clear weather. At 8:15 a.m. (local time), the Enola Gay's door sprang open and dropped "Little Boy." The bomb exploded 1,900 feet above the city and only missed the target, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 feet. Staff Sergeant George Caron, the tail gunner, described what he saw: "The mushroom cloud itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside... It looked like lava or molasses covering a whole city..." The cloud is estimated to have reached a height of 40,000 feet.

Hiroshima's population has been estimated at 350,000; approximately 70,000 died immediately from the explosion and another 70,000 died from radiation within five years. A survivor described the damage to people: "The appearance of people was... well, they all had skin blackened by burns... They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back... They held their arms bent [forward] like this... and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down... If there had been only one or two such people... perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people... Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts..."

Are u people stupid? We said to the Japanese we
have a new weapon capable of mass destruction
and to surrender now and they said no so we
dropped one. Then we said we have another and
we will use it unless you surrender and they said
no. We didn't start this war we didn't want to join it
but the Japanese attacked us first! If you dont like
what we did then why do you live here? If the
allies would have invaded japan instead of using
the bombs it would have costed millions of lives.
This saved lives and ended the war. It is truly the
Japanese fault they started this war with us! Like

Simply George
Americans just cant admit the fact that Hiroshima was
a war crime.
I mean, like why have war anyway.its over little
squabbles between world leaders and the civilians
are always the ones to get hurt. 350,000 people just
from one bomb, you can't justify that.

Plenty of Americans commenting here trying to justify the use of the bombs with the usual 'for the greater good argument'. Load of fucking shit. The Americans knew perfectly well the exact kind of devastation these bombs would cause.
The thing is they were already winning the war through their aerial bombing campaign of all major Japanese cities. Many academics and historians have since stated that the Japanese were on course to surrender by the end of that summer. Both their navy and air force had been practically wiped out by that stage while the population was already near starving point. Extensive fire bombings had already devastated the country and demoralized both civilians and troops.
The atomic bombings of Japan are among the greatest war crimes ever witnessed. Anyone who says otherwise is just blind to the facts. Dropping one bomb was bad, to drop a second just three days later was inhumanity at its worst.

they dropped the two bombs because the
Japanese armies were destroyed[mostly
suicides]but the pop of the citizens who
took arms would be unbelievable so they
had high moral.
when the first bomb or second i think
they surrendered even though america
could only manufacture another one in 6
within the 6 Mons. the Japanese could
have over thrown the Americans and there
bombing area wouldn't be long enough to
hit the main city
if they did this the war could have gone
on little longer
a little

I feel sorry for the Japanese affected
by the bombs. But I feel more sorry for
the thousands who were raped, tortured
and killed by the Japanese army. I
thought all of us learned from this war.
But apparently not!

WOW,what can I say? That is a horrific sight, even thru the Tail Gunners eyes.I try to imagine it,but I just can't do it.I can imagine what Staff Sergeant Caron went thru after the war(I have P.T.S.D). What it does to you is terrible.
