The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks during World War II against the Empire of Japan by the United States of America under US President Harry S. Truman. On August 6, 1945, the first choice target, Hiroshima, was having clear weather. At 8:15 a.m. (local time), the Enola Gay's door sprang open and dropped "Little Boy." The bomb exploded 1,900 feet above the city and only missed the target, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 feet. Staff Sergeant George Caron, the tail gunner, described what he saw: "The mushroom cloud itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside... It looked like lava or molasses covering a whole city..." The cloud is estimated to have reached a height of 40,000 feet.
Hiroshima's population has been estimated at 350,000; approximately 70,000 died immediately from the explosion and another 70,000 died from radiation within five years. A survivor described the damage to people: "The appearance of people was... well, they all had skin blackened by burns... They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back... They held their arms bent [forward] like this... and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down... If there had been only one or two such people... perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people... Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts..."
fuck japan they killed americans on our soil ye killed
them on theirs payback is a bitch
Bill stop with the racism
The nuclear bomb was way too harsh!
The nuclear bomb had to be used on some body.
If the devastation was not seen in 1945, the US
and Soviet Union would have probably destroyed
the whole world.
The Japanese soldiers were doing horrible things
to the US pow's, the US were treating Japanese
and German pow's well. It was a tough decision
but the war had to end, the bomb had to be
The A-Bomb was payback for Pearl Harbor. Better to make Japan surrender, than to invade the homeland. Japan was no innocent country, ask the Chinese in Nanking.
Denzel, you aren't adding anything to the
convorsation. Your ebonics isn't helping
the situation either...
Oops, I said 16.1. I meant 16.1 million :P
I will be honest, I am as disgusted as
you are about this, but you can't just
take it out on the entire U.S.
population. I feel horrible that
families, friends, loved ones, etc. got
torn apart by the nuclear explostion and
I understand if you hate America. I for
one hate the U.S. government, and I also
hate the ignorant S.O.Bs that live here
and think they are the master race. I
don't, however, hate the American people
because many of us are loving and not
Wait a second... You are saying Japan
was full of innocent civilians and that
you are disgusted by the American
people, yet you fail to realize that
many innocent people were still living
in America during WWII and would "NEVER"
think about dropping a nuclear bomb on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Not only that,
but over 16.1 innocent adult males were
drafted into the U.S. military with the
only other choice of going to prison for
the duration of the war, or in some
cases, 10-15 years! Many of these men
were shell-shocked the moment they
stepped foot onto enemy soil. It was
President Truman that gave orders to
drop a nuke on Japan, not the entire
fucking population of The U.S.
The Americans dropped the bomb to intimidate Russia, the next enemy after Germany and Japan. Japan was going to lose anyway, and saving a few American soldiers but killing ten thousands of Japanese children and women is not only a bad arguement but also just nasty, unhuman and not acceptable.
But who am I to speak against the Mother Theresa of all countries, USA...
