War → WWII → Victim of atomic bombing of Hiroshima
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks during World War II against the Empire of Japan by the United States of America under US President Harry S. Truman. On August 6, 1945, the first choice target, Hiroshima, was having clear weather. At 8:15 a.m. (local time), the Enola Gay's door sprang open and dropped "Little Boy." The bomb exploded 1,900 feet above the city and only missed the target, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 feet. Staff Sergeant George Caron, the tail gunner, described what he saw: "The mushroom cloud itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside... It looked like lava or molasses covering a whole city..." The cloud is estimated to have reached a height of 40,000 feet.

Hiroshima's population has been estimated at 350,000; approximately 70,000 died immediately from the explosion and another 70,000 died from radiation within five years. A survivor described the damage to people: "The appearance of people was... well, they all had skin blackened by burns... They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back... They held their arms bent [forward] like this... and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down... If there had been only one or two such people... perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people... Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts..."

Innocent people that have families, friends that love them all the same. And to lose a piece of that, to lose a peace of your heart, is tragic. And as for Bailey, I myself am American and I truly am ashamed of what this country has become (or what it was). This country has killed so many innocent civilians it's disgusting. Not only are they adults, but they're parents, cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, some are even children that are supposed to live and grow but instead died without a cause. And it's not just the U.S., it's many other countries too. |

jhardy01 describing Asians as "yellow skinned" is extremely rude. That also has nothing to do with this disastrous situation. It's sadist to wish for an entire ocuntry to have died from this tragic bombing. And yes- it was also wrong for Japan to bomb Hawaii, but in general this is stupid. Countries are wasting their time killing innocent people who have no say in what bullet gets to be shot from what gun. I feel like leaders should solve their problems by themselves instead of risking the civilians. It saves so much more money and time. And the U.S. has no right, nor does any other country to feel the need to destroy the lives of innocent people. |

That didn't stop them yellow skinned, slant eyed japs from bombing innocent people in Hawaii. That whole country should of vanished from those bombs. They should of gave up just like the Germans did, and they probably wouldn't look all deformed. |

Why do ignorant people keep blaming the Japanese for their fate? They asked for it for not surrendering?? What a load of bullshit! The American government decided to bomb a city full of innocent PEOPLE (notice how I do not term them as only Japanese, because yes, they are people just like you) instead of a military base. Most of these innocents probably had no quarrel with Americans as they were not involved, the government decided not to surrender, NOT the innocent people! Maybe, if you had asked them instead they would have! I am so glad that I am not American, or else I would be utterly disgusted with myself and my people. Actually, I am ashamed. I am ashamed to be a human being living on this planet. Completely disgusting, this tore families apart, and the living most definitely suffered the most from their loses. People lost their children and lovers for god sake, how would you feel watching the ones you love suffer. Rant end. |

There isn't how to find peace making war. That's not the way...if the men were really interested in helping the other ones, they'd not have time to think in bombing a place full o human being... |

fist of all if you guys know anything about social studies the usa told the japanese to stop invading other countries but the usa does the same thing thats is where the japanese learned it from the usa.so the usa told them to stop and the japanese refused.since the japanese said no the usa threaten them and that is when the japanese bombed peal harbor so that the usa would not invade their country.so really you cannot blame it on the japanese becuase america threaten them. |
