The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuclear attacks during World War II against the Empire of Japan by the United States of America under US President Harry S. Truman. On August 6, 1945, the first choice target, Hiroshima, was having clear weather. At 8:15 a.m. (local time), the Enola Gay's door sprang open and dropped "Little Boy." The bomb exploded 1,900 feet above the city and only missed the target, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 feet. Staff Sergeant George Caron, the tail gunner, described what he saw: "The mushroom cloud itself was a spectacular sight, a bubbling mass of purple-gray smoke and you could see it had a red core in it and everything was burning inside... It looked like lava or molasses covering a whole city..." The cloud is estimated to have reached a height of 40,000 feet.
Hiroshima's population has been estimated at 350,000; approximately 70,000 died immediately from the explosion and another 70,000 died from radiation within five years. A survivor described the damage to people: "The appearance of people was... well, they all had skin blackened by burns... They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back... They held their arms bent [forward] like this... and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down... If there had been only one or two such people... perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people... Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts..."
I think it's very pigheaded of some of you to just hate an entire race of people just because of what some INDIVIDUALS did. A lot of you need to grow up and stop hating people so much. I mean, I have an issue with how the American Government works but I don't hate Obama or any one individual in the white house currently. I do, however, have a great hatred for Paul Tibbets the piolet of the Enola Gay. And that is me hating an individual for what he did and the fact that he did it with no remorse up until the day he died. But I don't hate all Americans for what happened to the Japanese citizens. I also don't hate Japan for what they've done mainly because not ALL of them are responsible, only individuals are responsible. Just because separate persons did something horrible and inhumane doesn't mean that we should hate everyone of their nationality.
Sorry to rant like that but I feel like some of you really need a reality check.
I'm amazed at the amount of hate on this page. I agree with Nindo and that you guys need to calm down. Both sides did horrible things but in my opinion the US was wrong in dropping a nuclear device not once but twice on Japan. In war, EVERYONE does horrible and inhumane things to each other. But there's something that's bugging me...
Many of you are forgetting that everyone is an INDIVIDUAL. The civilians that died, which most of the a-bomb casualties were civilians, were innocent and had nothing to do with what the military was doing. The Japanese government at the time was threatening jail, torture and death if the citizens weren't patriotic. There were plenty of people during that time that disagreed with their government but were unable to do anything about it. Many INNOCENT people died instantly and later on due to these bombs including children and infants.
the first pic makes me want to watch mac and me again
okay guys theres a lot of hate on this page and as i read it all one thing struck me.
It's over. People died. Each and every one of them was valuable. Please just try to respect them all instead of sitting here insulting each other. They all died fighting for what they believed in and to defend their respective countries, and YES each side did commit atrocities the end of the line is that MILLIONS OF PEOPLE lost their lives world wide.
We should not be fighting. We should be learning, respecting, and moving on and preventing this from ever happening again.

The comment clearly states that 140,000 Japanese people died during the Hiroshima bombing. Japanese people here complain about how this is unfair. What's unfair is how Japanese people murdered 300,000 Chinese people in Nanjing and a lot more in Unit731 in Hitler styled human experiments. Japanese cut off Chinese limbs and attached them to other parts of the body and used them as human guinea pigs. The way Japanese suffered during Hiroshima/Nagasaki was nothing compared do what they did to Chinese and Korean in Unit731. Even when the victims of unit731 were cut open, they were left open. But this is not the reason why I hate them. I hate Japanese people because they hate us. And this goes the same for Vietnamese people as well. They hate us, and I hate them.
