Executions → Execution of Gay Teens in Iran (July 19, 2005)
Two gay teenagers Mahmoud Asgari and Ayaz Marhoni were hanged in public in the Iranian city of Mashhad on July 19, 2005. Photos of the execution released by Iranian Students News Agency showed the two teens crying in the truck driving them to the gallows in Edalat (Justice) Square.
The case had considerable global resonance. Iran has been under fire by international human rights groups for executing those teenagers for almost one year. But there were some interesting facts regarding this case. The first one is that Ayaz and Mahmoud were caught by Iranian Police during having anal sex with a 13 year old boy. Because the age of consent for men in Iran is 15, this 13 year old boy was automatically then classified raped by Mahmoud and Ayaz. So, in the eyes of the Iranian law, that boy was raped! The second one was those teens were aged 18 and 19 (death penalty is forbidden in Iran for those under the age of 18 at the time of their crime; almost no one wrote about this in mass media). The father of the 13 year old boy also officially claimed his son was raped.

| A good public hanging, no matter the age, is a good deterent for any serious crime. These two obviously deserved to be stretched, and should serve as a lesson for other enterprising gays. |

| Ken O'Neill certainly has a good sence of values, however, his pun is in bad taste, he deserves pun-atentiary time. If these boys were well endowed, and or, attracked to each other, is irrelevant, nature having its own way. If nature had chosen different, we could have been born this way. No human being should be tried by a religious kangaroo court, and summarily taken out and hanged by slow strangulation in a public square. If these young lads, who were given a horrendous flogging before their respective hangings, were martyrs to the mistreatment of youth, imagine the ripped out hearts of their parents, family and friends. When will organized religion stop dividing people?, and when will it stop being an instruement of toture and abuse? Man's inhumanity to man, what a badge of shame for mankind. |

| Poors guys, they loved each other for being well hung, in life and also alas, in death. Seriously though, it's abominabale, they might as well have executed them for being left handed, they were born that way, that's not a crime, that's just nature. |

| Homophobia is a common illness, as noted in many of the comments to the editor, but the horrendous crime of these two teenage boys hanging in the public square in Iran is the supreme shame of humanity towards its youth.I can understand durk-a-durks frustration, for brave people work for world peace, however, the easier solution is to take religious instruction out of the world's schools, hospital's and any where else they can infiltrate and contanimate the human mind. |
